Arts and Agriculture

Overview of Program

The arts bring significant benefits to individuals and communities, encompassing health and mental health improvements for children, seniors, and adults, especially those in high-stress roles or situations. The arts contribute to education, social cohesion, and overall quality of life. They support community vitality and deliver significant economic impact, generating $5.8 billion annually in Florida. Moreover, the arts foster both individual and community well-being.

In Florida, state funding and support for the arts are distributed primarily through the Florida Division of Arts and Culture, with much of this funding flowing through designated Local Arts Agencies (LAAs). However, 19 rural Florida counties lack LAAs, meaning they miss out on funding, resources, and opportunities that would otherwise be available.

The Arts and Agriculture Program aims to expand access to high-quality arts experiences in rural Florida communities, specifically targeting the 19 counties that currently lack Local Arts Agencies (LAAs). Today, these underserved areas miss out on vital arts funding and resources.

Through a strategic partnership between a partner agricultural agency and a partner LAA, the program will deliver arts programs in a cost-effective manner to rural counties throughout the state. Initially, a pilot will launch in four counties—Hardee, DeSoto, Glades, and Hendry.

Key Program Features

  • Monthly Arts Activity Kits: Hands-on arts experiences created and distributed to participating communities by the LAAs.

  • Quarterly Artist Visits: In-person artist-led events in each county, enhancing the program's engagement and cultural impact.

  • Turnkey Approach: Fully administered by the LAA ensuring minimal demands on local agricultural agency staff.
