Who We Are

The Arts and Agriculture Program brings together a wide network of partners across DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, and Hendry Counties. Local legislative offices work alongside regional and statewide arts agencies, arts administrators, and agricultural extension offices to support the program’s mission.

We also collaborate with a variety of community supporters—such as county fair committees, local organizations, faith-based groups, civic clubs, and other interested partners. Together, we help strengthen creative opportunities, celebrate local culture, and highlight the important role agriculture plays in our four counties.

The Purpose of the Program

In Florida, most state arts funding is provided through the Florida Division of Arts and Culture and is typically delivered to communities through local partners known as Local Arts Agencies (LAAs).

However, 19 rural counties in Florida do not have an LAA. Because of this, these counties miss out on important funding, resources, and creative opportunities that would otherwise support artists, students, and community programs.

Expanding Arts Access Through the Arts and Agriculture Program

The Arts and Agriculture Program provides a cost-effective, scalable, and easy-to-implement way to help fill the arts-service gap in rural Florida. Its goal is to bring meaningful arts and cultural experiences to communities that currently have limited access.

The program bridges two powerful statewide networks—Florida’s agricultural community and its arts community. By bringing these networks together, the program expands arts access in rural areas and helps improve the quality of life for more Floridians.

This programming model creates a smooth, easy experience for both rural agency staff and the communities they serve. It brings high-quality, accessible arts opportunities to rural areas while keeping the workload for local teams low—making it a practical and efficient way to introduce the arts where they’re needed most.

By partnering with an established Local Arts Agency (LAA), the program remains well-organized, cost-effective, and designed to deliver real community benefits. The combination of Art Activity Kits and hands-on artist engagement provides a rich, well-rounded arts experience without placing extra strain on rural agency staff.
